This is the first ever grammar check for any Indian language. It is worth mentioning that spell check without grammar has minimum utility as it will pass anything like “I are gone”. SG cannot be based on school grammars that give paradigms. For example, a sentence of Hindi can have particles such as ही,भी,तो, न occurring at many places in a sentence as in the example given below.
मैं ने ही कल ही शाम ही को ही उसी को ही पाँच ही रुपये दे ही दिए थे।
The interesting thing is that a sentence can have only one occurrence of any particle. In order to tell the machine where it could occur and how it can co-occur with other particles we need a proper linguistic theory. Current literature on linguistics has nearly nothing on this topic and current linguistic theories based on European languages have no way of dealing with this.
The SG can be used on any basic text.

A program with a futuristic vision
A dream of MT enabling natural language translation
• This not one of run-of-the-mill programs based on a hit or miss
approach. Academically speaking, translation based on words
that appear on the surface is passé.
• Natural language translation is possible only by translating at
the level of expressions. This can’t be achieved from a list of
equivalent glosses.
• We believe that development of a theory of grammar is a
pre-requisite for natural language translation.
• We are on the job at Lingua Net – of course we have just taken
the first step.
